PAGASA Replaced Bagyong Kanor On It’s 2014 List of Typhoons

The Philippine weather bureau, PAGASA updated their official list of tropical cyclone names on Tuesday, September 3, 2014, replacing the popular name Kanor with the new name Bagyong Karding. PAGASA did not elaborate further the main reasons why they changed the name of the typhoon from Kanor to Karding.

PAGASA Typhoon List

The confirmation of changing the name of the typhoon a few days before a low pressure area (LPA) was announced through the offical social media accounts of PAGASA. They posted a notice that the next cyclone in the Philippine Area of Responsibility will be called “Karding” and not “Kanor.”

Bagyong Kanor was earlier listed on the official typhoon list for the year 2014, based upon the first official released on January, Kanor replaces Bagyong “Katring” on its list of tropical cyclone in the Philippines.

Aside from the official list of 26 Storms, An auxiliary list was also Released:

The above list of typhoons in the Philippines will be used again in the year 2018 and 2022, they will be replaced only when the names will be retired. The main reason of typhoon names retirement “if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on different storm would be inappropriate for reasons of sensitivity” as noted by PAGASA.

The Philippine weather bureau, PAGASA, started assigning local names to storms during the 1963, following a common practice by other weather monitoring organizations around the world.
