Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) has said that they want to host the 2019 FIBA World Cup. They have actually told the FIBA that it already is planning to join in the bid of those who will be hosting the 2019 FIBA World Cup of Basketball.
FIBA Basketball World Cup is an international Basketball competition which are competed by the men’s national teams of the members of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). FIBA is the sport’s global governing body. It is also known as the flagships of the world international basketball competitions.
The SBP President and a businessman who is Manny Pangilinan have said that he have actually met the FIBA secretary who is General Patrick Baumann. This happened in the FIBA World Congress in last Friday, August 29, 2014 in Seville. He is now in Seville, Spain to cheer Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup.
“I said in 2019 we want to host the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines,” he said.
Somehow he believe that they can duplicate the success they have achieved in the last time that the country have hosted the FIBA Asia Championship. It happened last year.
He also said the the country (Philippines) have world wide facilities in which according to him is better than the one who hosted the FIBA World Cup.
He also said the they are thinking of the three international venues in the country. They are the Araneta Coliseum, the Philippine Arena and the Mall of Asia. He is also thinking to build a venue in Cebu.
At this moment, 2 countries have already shown their interest to host the said international competition in 2019. One of which is China.
Though, it is too early for this thing to think about, let’s just hope that this one will push through. Indeed, it would be another way so that our country will be featured all over the world. It is already one thing that all Filipinos should be proud of.
