The Philippine National Basketball Team, Gilas Pilipinas made a scare in the FIBA World Cup Championship by coming closer in the fourth quarter against powerhouse team Croatia. The game ended with just a three (3) points advantage for Croatia after an overtime game which ended with the final score at 81-78.
Although the Philippines lost against Croatia but the country’s representative to the Basketball World Cup are now in high spirit as they made a scare against Croatia. Some international sports media organization such as ESPN, even put the Philippines as the “worst” team to participate in the world’s popular basketball competition.
Naturalized Filipino player Andray Blatche led the Philippines with 28 points as he showed to the whole world that he is a proud Filipino. The Croatians was spearheadeed by their superstar Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 27 points, he was also the one who scored two free throws to break the game’s final deadlock.
The most exciting part of the game was during the fourth quarter when the Philippines came closer and even took the lead away from Croatia. The Gilas Pilipinas had a chance in the last few seconds of the game but the Filipinos failed to score in the final few seconds of the game and forced an overtime.
