Meanwhile, Hello Kitty started as a fictional character produced by Sanrio. Her characters first appearance on an item was shown in Japan in 1974.  Indeed, it’s part of Hello Kitty’s origin.

Actually, all of us knows Hello Kitty to be a cat based on its name. But with this revelation, seems that all our thoughts for her have actually changed.

According to Sanrio, Hello Kitty is a real human little girl who is living outside of London. She has a twin sister and a cat. She will be in third grade forever. This was confirmed through the help of an anthropologist named Christine R. Yano. This is to serve as honor in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty.

She also said that Hello Kitty is not a cat, instead she is a cartoon character. “She is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it’s called Charmmy Kitty,” she said.

Sanrio corrected her when she was preparing on her written text for the exhibit at the Japanese American Museum.

This is exactly what she said. “I was corrected — very firmly,” she says. “That’s one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it’s called Charmmy Kitty.”

Also, as a part of her 40th anniversary, she will be having a trip to outer space, a retrospective in LA and the first Hello Kitty Con.

Her retrospective opens on October 11 and will still remain on view through April 2015.
