DepEd Revised Their Vision-Mission Statement

Department of Education (Deped) recently had revised their vision-mission statement not including the phrase “God-loving” in describing the kind of Filipinos that wanted to hone by the academic sectors based on Philstar.

The Education Secretary who is Armin Luistro said that the agency’s vision, mission as well as it’s core values statements sets as a guiding principle in the thrust in order to provide a quality education. He said it to serve as a concern address over the noted revision.

He then merely cleared the said revision saying that the “living” document is meant to be read as a whole. It is “not static and not intended for mere posting on the walls on the tables. He said it through a statement.

Actually on February 5, 2013, the Filipino Freethinkers wrote a letter to Deped to denounce the phrase “God-loving” from it’s vision and “Maka-Diyos” in it’s core values to serve as a respect to those who do not believe in God.

With the said revision, other members of the group said on their online post that it was because of their request. But then, Deped had retained it’s original core values phrasing “maka-Diyos” in it’s new statement.

This is the old vision statement of Deped:

“By 2030, DepEd is globally recognized for good governance and for developing functionally-literate and God-loving Filipinos.”

This is the revised one:

“We dream of Filipinos who passionately love their country and whose values and competencies enable them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation.”

This is the revised core values:

“The core values that ground us are Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa.”

Lastly, he also insisted that the vision, mission and core values of the said department is a “one document and should be read in it’s entirety to grasp the full meaning.”

Whatever would be the reason of Deped for changing the said statements, people just have to believe that they are only doing what could best benefit the said department.
