Bagyong Henry Signal No. 1 Raised in Cagayan & Batanes

Philippine weather bureau, PAGASA raised Signal No. 1 in the northern Luzon provinces of Cagayan and Batanes on Monday, July 21, 2014, as Bagyong Henry (international name Matmo) affected the two provinces and its nearby islands. Aside from the strong winds and rains, the typhoon is expected to bring rains overs the rest of the Philippines.

PAGASA noted that Bagyong Henry enhanced the southwest monsoon (habagat) to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Aurora Province, Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Bicol Regions and some parts of the Visayas.

Typhoon Henry has a packing winds at 130 to 160 kilometers per hour moving northwest at 20 kph, according to PAGASA, it is expected to be at 220 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, by Tuesday morning. The typhoon will then moved to Taiwan by Wednesday morning exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

As Typhoon Signal No. 1 was raised over the Batanes group of islands and Cagayan Province including the Babuyan and Calayan group of islands, PAGASA warned of possible flashfloods and landslides in the affected areas.

Bagyong Henry is the eighth storm to hit the Philippines this year, the typhoon entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility last July 28, 2014, after Bagyong Glenda (Rammasun) battered Luzon and Metro Manila leaving behind fatalities and damages in infrastructure and agriculture.
