June 12, 2014 Independence Day Holiday Pay Rules

The Philippines government through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) urged the private companies and employers in the Philippines to abide by the Holiday Pay Rules for the June 12, 2014 Independence Day Holiday.

The 116th Independence Day Holiday is considered as one of the official Regular Holidays in the Philippines. Based upon the Presidential Proclamation No. 655 Series of 2013, the June 12 Holiday is one of the Regular Holiday.

Here’s the Pay Rules for June 12, 2014 Independence Day Holiday Celebration:

• If the employee did not work, he/she shall be paid 100 percent of his/her salary for that day. Computation: (Daily rate + Cost of Living Allowance) x 100%. The COLA is included in the computation of holiday pay.
• If the employee worked, he/she shall be paid 200 percent of his/her regular salary for that day for the first eight hours. Computation: (Daily rate + COLA) x 200%. The COLA is also included in computation of holiday pay.
• If the employee worked in excess of eight hours (overtime work), he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on said day. Computation: Hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 200% x 130% x number of hours worked.
• If the employee worked during a regular holiday that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her daily rate of 200 percent. Computation: (Daily rate + COLA) x 200%] + (30% [Daily rate x 200%)].
• If the employee worked in excess of eight hours (overtime work) during a regular holiday that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on said day. Computation: (Hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 200% x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked).

According to the latest news posted by the official website of the Philippine government, this year’s official Independence Day celebrations will take place in Naga City, Camarines Sur. President Aquino will lead the 116th Independence Day celebration in the region, to commemorate Bicol’s contribution to the Philippine revolution, who produced the 15 Bicolano Martyrs.

Right after the celebration in Naga, the Philippine President will host the Vin D’Honneur in Malacanang Palace with the members of the Diplomatic Corps and the leadership of the three branches of government were also invited.

  1. what if an employee was absent before or after the holiday (june 12), is he entitled still to the holiday pay? any ruling? thanks
