Magnitude 4.9 Earthquake Hits Davao Oriental (June 4, 2014)

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed that a Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit Davao Oriental on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 . The quake was recorded  85 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town at round 12:17 p.m

Here’s the intensity reports released by Phivolcs:

  • Intensity III – Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental
  • Intensity II – General Santos City

According to Phivolcs, Intensity IV is “felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. Light sleepers are awakened. Vibration is felt like a passing of heavy rocks. Hanging objects swing considerably. Dinner, plates, windows and doors rattle.”

Phivolcs noted that the 4.9 Davao oriental earthquake was tectonic in origin and it struck at a depth of 67 kilometers. There are no expected aftershocks and immediate damage reported as of press time.

The local government  has yet to release any statement regarding their action in relation with the 4.9 Magnitude earthquake which struck off Davao Oriental earlier but Phivolcs advise the public earlier to be updated on the intensities and possible aftershocks produced by the earthquake.

Phivolcs has yet to raise tsunami warnings within areas affected since the tremor was located ashore. Based upon the latest earthquake information of Phivolcs, there are 67 jolts which hit the country as of posting including the recorded aftershocks.
