The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed that there are 14 aftershocks recorded following a 5.1 magnitude earthquake which hit Surigao on Friday, May 30, 2014.
The magnitude 5.1 tectonic earthquake which hit the coast of Surigao was recorded at 173 kilometers at a depth of 24 kilometers which struck at 11:26 p.m.
Here’s the intensity reports released by Phivolcs:
Intensity IV – Surigao City; General Luna, Surigao del Norte
Intensity III -Tandag, Surigao del Sur
Intensity II – San Jose, Dinagat Island,Surigao del Norte; Bayabas and Tago, Surigao del Sur
Phivolcs noted that the 14 aftershocks which hit Surigao were recorded between 11:51 p.m. until 8:25 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 31, 2014 which ranges from 3.2 to 4.9. magnitudes and most of them surfaced northeast of northeast of Cortes town in Surigao del Sur.
Magnitude 5 earthquakes are “earthquakes with moderate strength and are felt over the wide areas; some of them cause small local damages near the epicenter.”

Phivolcs has yet to raise tsunami warnings within areas affected since the tremor was located ashore. There is no immediate damage reported as of press time.
