PNP to Deploy 6,000 Strong Personnel for the WEF on East Asia

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy a total of 6,000-strong police contingent for the 23rd World Economic Forum on East Asia 2014 in Makati City to secure the international gatherings this week.

The WEF on East Asia 2014 gathering is scheduled to take place from May 21 to 23, 2014. Meanwhile the Young Leaders’ Meeting will be held on May 19 to 20, and the 10th ASEAN Finance Minister Investor’s Seminar will be conducted in May 21, in two of the hotels in Makati City.

According to PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima, he designated the Police Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina to head the PNP Task Force WEF, that already enters its operational phase starting on Saturday, May 17 and will end up to May 23, 2014.

Meanwhile according to the PNP Officials, all PNP unites not directly involved in the World Economic Forum (WEF) security have been instructed to maintain vigilance, and undertake proactive as well as precautionary measures against possible hostile actions of domestic threat groups and criminal elements that may take advantage of the situation.

The WEF 2014 in the Philippines will welcome economic managers in East Asia and the Pacific. There will be more than 600 participants in the event from business, government, civil society and academia.

ASEAN leaders and head of state who will participate in the WEF on East Asia are Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung of Vietnam and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia. The Vice President of Myanmar, Vice President U Nyan Tun will also visit the country to represent Myanmar.
