Jeffrey Cariaso Named New Barangay Ginebra Head Coach

Jeffrey “The Jet” Cariaso, former PBA player and current San Mig Coffee Mixers assistant coach has officially been named as the new head coach of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Slam Philippines reported on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

The popular sports website announced via its official Instagram account that the former Alaska Aces guard will take over the outgoing coach of Gin Kings, coach Ato Agustin.

The 45-year-old former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player has yet to confirm the report but based on the exclusive interview conducted by the Slamonlineph.com, Jeffrey Cariaso has agreed to coach Barangay Ginebra.

As of posting, it is not yet clear who will make up as Jeffrey Cariaso’s staff. The 41-year-old US-born basketball player is currently coaching the San Mig Coffee Mixers along with Earl Timothy Cone as the head coach of last year’s conference champion.

San Mig Coffee Mixers consists of powerhouse players including James Yap and Mark Barroka former Most Valuable Players are gearing up for 2014 Commissioner’s Cup. Although Jeffrey Cariaso has yet to confirm the report, he is purported to coach Ginebra if the Mixers wins the title or get eliminated from the Commissioner’s Cup.

Jeffrey Cariaso will mark his first head coaching job if he will take over coach Ato Agustin. Barangay Ginebra has not won a title since 2008.

A report earlier surfaced which hinted that PBA legend Robert Jaworski is currently in talks to return coaching Barangay Ginebra.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel was known for its “Never Say Die” spirit which came to prominence after being headed by the former PBA legend-turned-politician.
