University of the Philippines (UP) Top 200 in QS World University Rankings

The Philippines premier educational institution, the University of the Philippines is the only Philippine university that made it to the global top 200 in at least one of the 30 disciplines covered in the QS World University Rankings by subject according to the latest ranking published by TopUniversities.Com.

The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table of the top 800 universities in the world. The worldwide university rankings started its operation way back the year 1990.

The University of the Philippines (UP) made it to the top 151-200 institutions for agriculture and forestry and for environmental science. The UP’s ranking is also similar to the southeast Asian nation of Indonesia wherein only the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) was able to represent the world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia that ranks 151-200 in computer science.

Based upon the latest data published by TopUniversities.com, Asian countries accounts for ten of the top 30 institutions in chemical, civil and electrical engineering, and eight in mechanical engineering, showing that some of Asia’s institutions can be considered as serious global players in the education sector.

One of the most remarkable institution in Asia is the National University of Singapore which makes the global top ten in all five of the engineering and technology disciplines. 

Asian educational powerhouse Hong Kong also accounts for three of the top 20 institutions for computer science namely: HKUST (11th), HKU (14th), and Chinese University of Hong Kong (18th).

In terms of global rankings, Harvard remains the best all-around institution worldwide, ranking first in 11 of the 30 disciplines, which is two more than its rival M(–foul word(s) removed–)achusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
