President Aquino to Visit Bantayan Island on February 25, 2014

The President of the Republic of the Philippines will visit the island of Bantyan, tomorrow, February 25, 2014 as part of the national government’s celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution in Cebu and nearby provinces.

The 28th anniversary of the EDSA will be held outside Metro Manila for the very first time after two decades of celebrating the historic event at the country’s capital.

According to the itinerary of the President Aquino on his visit to Cebu for the EDSA 28th anniversary, the Philippines highest official will proceed to Bantayan Island to inspect more than one hundred boats for the fishermen whose boats were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda.

The non-government organization (NGO) Damgo sa Kaugmaon, Inc. based in Bantayan Island through their Bantayan Back to Sea Project confirmed to us at PhilNews.ph that the group will have representatives from every Barangay who will join the flotilla, during Pres. Aquino’s visit to the island.

Based upon the itinerary of the Philippine President on his visit to Bantayan Island, the President will fly to the island and will the boats to be given to the fishermen as part of the projects of various NGO’s including Gawad Kalinga and the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, Inc., among others.

The Bantayan island visit of the Philippine President will be his first after the devastation brought about by super typhoon Yolanda that made its fourth landfall in the island last November 8, 2013.

Aside from President Aquino, the other head of state that already visited the island after super typhoon Yolanda is the President of Myanmar, Pres.  Thein Sein, who personally distributed relief aid to the Bantayan Island last December 2013.
