De La Salle Nears Back-to-Back Overall championship

With few events left in the season 76, which include the women’s Volleyball, De La Salle University is shaping to be the overall winner again in this year’s UAAP.

The green army is currently leading the race to the general championship of the premiere collegiate league following a splendid first semester campaign highlighted by the title-reinstatement of Green Archers in men’s basketball and a strong second semester showing so far.

The Taft-based school, which reigned supreme last season, ended the first part of the UAAP with a total of 162 points after likewise emerging as champions in women’s basketball, men’s table tennis, men’s taekwondo, and women’s judo.

University of Sto.Tomas, a 14-year holder of the feat, placed second in the first semester with 146 points.

La Salle also secured runners-up finish in men’s fencing, baseball, and women’s tennis in the ongoing semester to fortify their bid and keep in step with other contender for the general trophy

In accord to the league scoring system, a championship in a sport event’s division is given 15 points, second place finish is worth 12, and third place honor scored 10 points.

And with the volleyball tournament still to be decided, La Salle’s Lady Spikers, who are very much in contention to claim yet another title, could make the greenies’ second straight overall championship official.

The Lady Spikers, who earned an outright finals berth and a thrice-to-beat advantage after sweeping elimination round, awaits the winner of the do-or-die game of Ateneo and NU on Wednesday.
