Rain or Shine Defeated San Mig in Game 5 of PBA Finals

The Rain or Shine Coffee Mixers defeated the San Mig Coffee Mixers with the final score of 81-74 during the Game 5 of the PBA Philipine Cup Finals held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, February 23, 2014.

Gilas Pilipinas mainstay Jeff Chan topscored for the Elasto Painters as he scored 24 of his 25 points in the second half leading his team surviving one game and extending the series to Game 6.

Before the start of Game 5, the Elasto Painters was down with 1-3 win-loss advantage and a defeat would mean ending their chances of the All-Filipino Cup title against San Mig Coffee Mixers.

With Rain or Shine’s win the series is now at 2-3 still in favor of the San Mig Coffee Mixers. According to Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao he is still looking to make the championship. He was quoted as saying “We just grinded out a win and we’re still certainly behind in this series, but one thing we can promise the fans is we will fight it out to the end and we’re still looking to make the championship,” Yeng Guiao said.

The San Mig Coffee Mixers dominated the first few minutes of the game as they exploded with 16-1 run to open up a 20-10 lead midway through the first quarter.

During the second half, the Elasto Painters got some points with the leadership of Jeff Chan as the Bacolod-born star scored with nine points in a 13-3 blast as his team took back the lead with 48-46, restoring a 43-35 lead at halftime.

During the last few seconds of the game with 13.6 seconds remaining, Yap failed to convert his three-point attempt and Rain or Shine took possession. Jeff Chan converted the last two free throws which sealed the Elasto Painters win with 81-74 at score card.
