INC Charity Walk Broke Two Guinness World Records

The Iglesia Ni Cristo have broken two Guinness World Record during the Worldwide Charity Walk for Super Typhoon Yolanda victim over the weekend. The confirmation was made through an official Guinness adjudicator.

According to the Guinness official who visited the Philippines, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) set a new record for the largest charity walk in 24 hours (multiple venue). The INC Walk for a cause was staged in 135 sites across the globe such as the USA, Europe, Australia/New Zealand and in Asia including the Philippines.

Kirstie Bennett, Guinness World Record adjudicator announced “Thirteen time zones, 54 countries, 24 hours….Iglesia Ni Cristo reached a number and that number is 519, 521 participants,” she said. 

The Guinness representative added further that “On behalf of Guinness I’d like to award Iglesia Ni Cristo for the largest charity walk in 24 hours multiple venue. Congratulations you are officially amazing again ,” she said.

The announcement was made at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2014. The record was previously set by Canada involving 231,635 participants who walked for a minimum of 1 kilometer (.62 miles) at 1,011 different locations around Canada last October 2, 2007.

Aside from the first record, INC also broke the record previously set by Singapore, for the largest charity walk in a single venue with 175,000 participants. Singapore’s record of 77,000 participants last 2000 was broken by INC.

The INC Walk for a Cause in Metro Manila started at the grounds of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) along Roxas Boulevard up to the historic Rizal Park.

The Guinness World Record held by Iglesia Ni Cristo is not the first time for the religious group. The INC already earned Guinness recognition for the “Largest Dental Health Check,” “Biggest Number of Blood Pressure (BP) Readings,” and the “Most Numerous Blood Glucose Level (BGL) tests, conducted in eight hours.”
