The football icon arrived in the Philippines on Thursday afternoon, February 13, 2014 alongside seven other officials of UNICEF. Beckham visited the typhoon-ravaged areas of Tacloban to give comfort to the survivors and victims of Yolanda.

This will be the second visit of the international football superstar since he first visited Manila last 2011 during an exhibition match between his US team, LA Galaxy against the Philippine national football team, the Philippine Azkals.

The 38-year-old David Beckham has been supporting the victims of super typhoon Haiyan after it struck most areas of the Visayas region. Together with his wife former Spice Girl member Victoria, the couple donated to the British Red Cross during the relief efforts of various international organizations who aided the Philippines.

David Beckham visited a tent city of several hundred families in Tacloban even entering one tent for an extended chat with its occupants. The football star and UNICEF Amb(–foul word(s) removed–)ador also visited the Tacloban Convention Center where some of the victims stayed.

Although most of the people are unaware about David Beckham’s identity as a superstar athlete, most of the residents of Tacloban were grateful with his visits of their devastated city.

David Beckham also conquered the Twitter trending topics for the Philippines right after his arrival at Tacloban City.
