La Salle Routs Past UE, One Win Away From Elims Sweep

Unbeaten De La  Salle moved within a win from sweeping the elimination round after the Lady Spikers crushed winless University of the East Lady warriors, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 for their 13 straight victory on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V arena in San Juan.

With the dominating win, La Salle has primed up its highly-anticipated match against second-running National University (12-1) on Saturday.

The Lady Spikers are shooting for a perfect 14-game record to get a precious outright finals berth and thrice-to-beat incentive while the Lady Bulldogs, whose lone lost came from the latter, could spoil the party if they trip the taft-based squad come their second round encounter.

“Sabi ko sa mga bata, gusto ko ’yung magandang performance in preparation for the game sa Saturday, although ’yung first set namin, medyo mabagal,” said La Salle mentor Ramil De Jesus. (Statement from Spin.ph)

Cyd Demecillo had 10 hits while Abi Maraño and Mika Reyes added eight points each for La Salle, which also registered its 29th straight victory dating back from last season.

The Lady Warriors on the other hand dropped to a league-worst 0-13 slate and has only one more game left, which is against UP to salvage a win.
