Former champ Marvin Sonsona to fight Shimoda in Macau

Marvin Sonsona will try to rebuild his name once more as he comes back in the boxing ring against Japanese Akifumi Shimoda at the Venetian Resort and Casino in Macau this February 22.

Sonsona (17-1-1, 14 KO’s), a pride of General Santos City, has conquered the junior bantamweight division after he defeated Jose “Carita” Lopez to steal the WBO Junior Bantamweight title back in 2009.

Enjoying the popularity he had, Marvin Sonsona, also known as “The Marvelous”, faced the hardest challenge in his career as he was sent onto the canv(–foul word(s) removed–) by Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. That was the only loss in his record which makes him out un the boxing scene for a while.

Shimoda (28-3-2, 12 KO’s) also became a World title holder and eyeing to have another impressive victory after winning five consecutive fights since his loss to Rico Ramos to defend his belt.

He got the WBA Junior Featherweight crown but hold it in a short time as Ramos knocked him out in six rounds in 2011.

The Venetian, Macau, a venue where Filipino Fighters dominate such as Manny Pacquiao, Brian Viloria, Milan Melindo, and Genesis Servania, will also feature Olympic gold medalists Zhou Zhiming, Egor Mekhonstev, and Ryota Morata in different bouts, as well as Filipino prospects Jerwin Ancajas and Harmonito dela Torre.
