San Mig’s Import James Mays Arrives Early

San Mig Coffee mixers now have the luxury to get acquainted well with its import prior to Commissioner’s Cup as their reinforcement for the next conference James Mays came earlier than of the other teams.

The 6’9 James Mays arrived in the country just this weekend with a personal threshold to win a title with his imminent team, which is currently doing well in the playoffs.

“That’s the goal (to win a PBA championship with San Mig). I didn’t come here to lose. I came here for us to compete for in the championship,” Mays said (Statement from Spin.ph)

The US-born African player even watched the San Mig Coffee Mixers’ 90-82 ousting of the defending champions Talk n’ Text on Sunday and were impressed of what he had witness.

“One thing I can say, they (Mixers) played really hard. They played their guts out, playing as if it’s their last game,” he added.

With the handicapping system, San Mig along with other seven teams which made the quarterfinals are only allowed to get 6’9 imports while the elimination also-rans Air21 and Meralco have the privilege to bring in reinforcements not exceeding a height of 6’11.

An NBA D-league player, Mays has played for Springfield Armor, Maine Red Claws and Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Mays, part of the San Antonio Spurs roster in the summer league last year, also had a stint being a reinforcement in China, Puerto Rico and Turkey in the past.
