“We played well from start to finish,” San Mig head coach Tim Cone said. “I’ve got veterans that play big in the playoffs.” (Statement form sports.inquirer.net)

The mixers, who extended their winning streak to four, continued their mastery over the Texters, who they thrashed, 100-87 at the tail end of elimination round.

Trailing by 12, Texters explosive guards Jayson Castro and Jimmy Alapag dropped an 8-2 run to chop the mixers’ lead to six, but rookie Justin Melton quickly negated it with a triple for San Mig to take a 69-60 advantage heading in the pay-off period.

TNT threatened anew after Ranidel De Ocampo hit a trey and Alapag made three free-throws to come within five, 66-71 early in the fourth but San Mig unloaded a 7-0 blitz capped by Simon three-pointer at the 7:45 mark to push their lead back to 12.

The mixers since then never looked back as they coped with Texter’s slight uprisings down the stretch.

Joe Devance scored 12 points while Mark Barroca and James Yap chipped in 11 markers apiece for the mixers, who put TNT’s four-feat bid in peril.

Marc Pingirs had a double-double of 10 points and 13 boards to lead San Mig’s rebounding juggernaut joining Rafi Reavis and Yancy de Ocampo in the paint.

Castro finished with 25 points while Danny Seigle and Alapag chipped in 15 and 12 respectively for the Texters who now have a virtual twice-to-beat disadvantage come next game.

Game 2 is scheduled on Friday still at the same venue.
