San Miguel Beer Returns to the PBA Replacing Petron

San Miguel Beer, the only remaining pioneer team of the Philippine Basketball (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation (PBA) will be switching back to its old name in a bid to extend to its championship tradition.

The announcement was made by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon S. Ang on Monday. According to San Miguel’s top executive, PBA’s Petron Blaze Boosters, one of the three PBA teams under SMC’s umbrella, will be reverting to its old name San Miguel Beer beginning in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup 2014. 

In a sports article posted by Spin.Ph, Ramon S. Ang said that the time is ripe to bring the company’s core brand back to the PBA, San Miguel will be celebrating the team’s grand slam feat during the year 1989. 

Ramon Ang was quoted as saying “San Miguel Beer is synonymous to brewing excellence. We built our success as a conglomerate on San Miguel’s name. We are happy to announce its return to the PBA and we look forward to its future success,” said Ang.

The San Miguel franchise has won a total of 19 championships in the PBA, including the historic 1989 grand slam victory during the reign of multi-awarded coach Norman Black.

During the year 1989, San Miguel Beer swept all three conferences during that time, the team were composed of PBA Legends; Ato Agustin, Alfie Almario, Ricardo Brown, Hector Calma, Ricky Cui, Yves Dignadice, Ramon Fernandez, Jeffrey Graves, Bobby Jose, Samboy Lim, Franz Pumarin, Alvin Teng, Tonichi Yturri, Michael Phelps, Keith Smart and Ennis Whatley.

This seasons Petron Blaze Boosters which will be reverted back to its previous name San Miguel Beer is bannered by 2013 MVP Arwind Santo top rookie center June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot, Marcio L(–foul word(s) removed–)iter, Chris Lutz, Chris Ross, Doug Kramer, Chico Lanete, Yousef Taha, Ronald Tubid, Joseph Marata, Jojo Duncil, Paulo Hubalde and Jason Deutchman.
