The 54-year-old Gerardo Gamboa is a native of Mabalacat, Pampanga but currently residing in Nevada. According to the Filipino cab driver he found the brown paper bag with money after dropping off his p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger.

Gerardo Gambao’s p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger is a gambler who won big during the night when he made a ride with the Filipino’s cab. The Filipino cab driver’s company “Yellow Checker Star” picked up the p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger from the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino and dropped him off at the Palms Palace.

Gamboa then picked up another p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger but a hotel doorman noticed the bag and called on Gamboa’s attention to it. The Filipino taxi driver Gerardo Gamboa first thought that it was a bag of chocolates. When he looked at the contents, he was surprised to see six huge bundles of $100 bills worth $50,000 each.

The Pinoy cab driver told his p(–foul word(s) removed–)enger, “You are my witness on this,” and called his dispatcher right away.

Gerardo Gamboa secured the money-bag and surrendered it to his employer. The taxi company tracked down the bag’s owner and sought the help of the policemen to confirmed the identity of the rightful owner.

The rightful owner of the US$300,000 cash informed the Yellow Checker Star that he wanted to see Gamboa and reward the taxi driver for his honesty. However, Gamboa stated, “If he doesn’t give me anything, that’s okay. I’m not waiting for any kind of return. I just wanted to do the right thing, and I appreciate what the company did for me.” he said.

The cab company Yellow Checker Star awarded Gerardo Gamboa with some perks, which includes a bonus worth $1,120, a dinner for two at an exclusive restaurant and named his “Driver of the Year.”

Gerardo Gamboa received good karma not only from his fellow Filipinos but for all the taxi drivers that saw his honesty as reported by several news network. Gamboa became an instant celebrity after fielding interviews with some of the US major news outlets.
