Pantene PH Ad Agency BBDO Denied Glee Project Copied

Pantene Philippines’ Labels Against Women commercial video advertising agency, BBDO Guerrero, denied allegations that the promotional video used were copied from the concept of a “Glee Project” video as the Pantene WhipIt video gone viral hitting more than 17 million YouTube views as of today, Dec. 26, 2013.

The allegations arouse after social media and networking sites noticed similarities between “Mad World” video of “Glee Project” and Pantene Philippines’ “Labels Against Women, ” which appeared having correspondence on the concept.

The two videos also used the same song arrangement entitled Tears for Fears from the 80’s.

BBDO Guerrero managing director,  Francine Kahn-Gonzalez  released the agency’s statement as the agency “had no knowledge of the ‘Glee Project’ video prior to production and distribution of our work for Pantene.”

“We have recently been made aware of allegations of plagiarism concerning the Philippines Pantene viral video ‘Labels.’ We have received (–foul word(s) removed–)urances from our creative partner BBDO that no plagiarism took place in the development of the video,” Raffy Fajardo, country marketing director of P&G Distributing Philippines which handles Pantene said in a statement sent to ABS-CBN News.com.

In fact, the ‘Labels’ creative team were not aware of the Glee Project ‘Mad World’ video when the Pantene video was written and produced,” Fajardo added.

“This campaign is all about the issue of gender bias and double standards that women continue to fight. We hope that we can help bring people together to raise more awareness and action on this important issue,” Fajardo added.

Pantene Philippines cmmercial ad garnered praised from the netizens as well as Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg among many people who affirmed the video as  “one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen.”
