MMFF 2013 Opening Day Box Office Reached P134 Million

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2013 earned more than P134 million in box office income during the opening day of MMFF 2013 on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013.

The confirmation of the official MMFF 2013 box office income was revealed on Thursday by MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

The 39th edition of the most popular movie festivals in the country, the MMFF 2013 beat the previous year’s opening-day record by almost P30 million according to the organizers.

The nationwide figures or the box office income of the eight official entries of the MMFF 2013 is 23% higher compared to the 2012 opening day gross which was recorded at P105 million. During the 2012 edition of the MMFF all movies went on to earn over P700 million throughout its run, beating the 2011 record which was set at P636 million. 

According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino the Top Four movies during the first day of the MMFF are the following:

  1. My Little Bossings
  2. Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy
  3. Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay
  4. Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel.

Out of the four top-grossing movies, only the movie “Pagpag,” a co-production between Star Cinema and Regal Films is the only horror movie. The other three movies belongs to comedy.
