For the second consecutive time the Philippine President’s visit to Filipino candidates of an international beauty pageant brought honor to the country. Some netizens lauded President PNoy as the “lucky charm” of Filipino winners such as Megan Young and Bea Rose Santiago.
Although netizens considered President Aquino’s visit as a lucky charm for the beauty titlist, the President refused to consider himself as their lucky charm.
In an interview with the media on Wednesday, President Aquino was quoted as saying “Do I consider myself a lucky charm? Kapal naman ng mukha ko kung sasabihin kong I’m a lucky charm to anybody,” Aquino told reporters.
The Philippine President was in Tokyo, Japan, during the final week of the Miss International 2013 beauty pageant. The Philippine bet Bea Rose Santiago won the title on Tuesday evening, becoming the fifth Filipino to take home the crown. The last time that the Philippines captured the title was way back the year 2005 courtesy of Precious Lara Quigaman.
During the Miss World 2013, President Aquino was also present in the island of Bali in Indonesia to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The President of the Philippines was also quoted as saying on Wednesday that “If some people consider me a lucky charm, thank you. But I don’t think I can pronounce myself a lucky charm,” he said.
President Aquino also mentioned during the recent success of Bea Rose in Miss International during the awarding of the Department of Health ISO (International Organization for Standardization)-certification at Malacañang.
