Katy Perry’s Roar is DOH Campaign Jingle for New Year 2014 (Video)

The Department of Health will be using the latest hit single “Roar” by Katy Perry as their campaign jingle for the year 2014. This is part of the DOH’s campaign against the use of firecrackers.

DOH (–foul word(s) removed–)istant Secretary Eric Tayag revealed during an interview with GMA Network that they decided to use the song of Katy Perry because of its popularity. Aside from the song jingle, Dr. Tayag also introduced the dance steps of the DOH campaign jingle for 2014.

According to the Department of Health, they will start their report on Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance from December 21, 2013 up to January 5, 2013. The agency strongly reminded parents, caregivers, and elders not to allow children aged 6-10 years to light fireworks/firecrackers, especially piccolo, as statistics showed that most injuries were from this age group.

During the year 2012, the DOH recorded a total of 931 fireworks-related injuries, 904 were due to fireworks, 25 from stray bullet, while two were cases of firecracker ingestion. Compared to previous year, fireworks-related injuries were 8% lower, stray bullet injuries were 14% lower and firecracker ingestion were 60%.
