La Salle vs. San Beda “Champions for a Cause” Garnered P1.8 Million

Collegiate basketball champions, the UAAP’s De La Salle Green Archers and NCAA champions, the San Beda Red Lions participated in “Champions for a Cause” Charity game held on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum for the benefit of the survivors of the super typhoon Yolanda.

The champions duel between two of the most popular collegiate basketball team in the county, La Salle and San Beda ended in a “draw” with the final score at 74-all, after some crucial and exciting baskets in the final period of the match.

DLSU’s Almon Vosotros led his team with a game-high 21 points scoring 16 points in the first half of the game. The Green Archers was leading with just 14 seconds in the last period with the score at 74-72 but Ola Adeogun scored the last basket to tie the game but he missed the free throw. Jeron Teng tried to make the last shot for La Salle but failed ending the game in a draw.

Due to the reason that the game was just an exhibition, there was no overtime for the “Champions for a Cause” charity basketball game. The La Salle vs. San Beda game raised over P1.8 million for Yolanda survivors.

The donation includes a pledge by the alumni of the schools to donate P5,000 for each point scored in the game, amounting to P740,000 for the 148 combined points. The PLDT MyDSL pledged P5,000 for every three-pointer made in the game, totalling to P50,000 for the six three-pointers by La Salle and four by San Beda.

Local mobile brand Star Mobile also made a donation of P28,000 while Bostik Philippines and Total Philippines added with P37,000 each. The ticket sales for the La Salle vs. San Beda game reached P1 million pesos.

The total amount raised by the charity game “Champions for a Cause” reached more than P1.8 million.
