US State Secretary John Kerry to Visit Philippines this Month

US State Secretary John Kerry is scheduled to visit the Philippines this coming December to disclose the US commitment to aid rehabilitation for Southeast Asian countries devastated brought by super typhoon.

The State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said that Philippines Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario had a conversation with the State Secretary who acknowledged the United States for its “overwhelming support” in the wake of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) that hit the Central Philippines particular in Visayas that made landfall in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) killing approximately 5,680 with 1, 779 recorded missing and displacing 3.8 million Filipinos.

The US government had already provided about $60 million in aid with the typhoon victims.

Secretary Kerry told Del Rosario that US “will continue to stand by the Philippines during this difficult time.” Harf added they will also discuss a wide range of bilateral and regional issues.

The US Secretary was already set to visit the country last October but he was  forced to cancel his trip due to the earlier typhoon approaching.
