A group of Bantayan residents lead by Mr. Allan Monreal from Bantayan Island Nature Park and Resort initiated the “Bantayan Back To Sea Project” to empower the fishermen in Bantayan to re-build their lost livelihood through “Bayanihan.”

According to the statistics from the Local Government Units of Bantayan, almost 80% of fishing boats in Bantayan were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda, the “Back to Sea” project aims to connect Bantayan fishermen back to their livelihood.

Here’s a short description of How the “Back to Sea Project Works“:

  • Back to Sea works with the Barangay Captains of Bantayan to (–foul word(s) removed–)s the damage of the fishing boats per barangay.
  • They come up with a list of beneficiaries per sitio, as well as damage and cost estimate per boat.
  • It will then be up to the Barangay Captains to purchase the materials, then hand it over to the fishermen.
  • The fishermen will take charge of building or rebuilding his boat. We also empower other fishermen by asking them to help each other in this rebuilding process.
  • It is the Bayanihan Spirit at its most visible.
