DepED Announced Classes in Tacloban City Set to Resume on December 2

Tacloban City was devastated severely by super typhoon Yolanda destroying some of the vital infrastructures including the schools leaving an option for the students to stop temporarily due to some reconstructions, yet the Department of Education take an early action and officially announced that classes will resume on December 2.

According to an interview with DZMM, Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that December 2 was the date agreed upon by the principals in the city after the tremendous damage brought by the typhoon “Yolanda.”

Upon resumption of classes, teachers were oblige to call the names of all the students and to look for the students who were absent.

Teachers should coordinate with authorities to know if any of their students were missing.

As confirmed in a report, there were 20 teachers and school staff in Region 8 passed away due to the typhoon.

Sec. Luistro also added that they will help teachers and staff who lost their houses.

“Nag-iisip po kami na baka ‘yung ibang guro habang nagtatayo ng bahay, baka kailangan gawan namin ng bunkhouses kahit sa loob ng eskwelahan.”

The Department of Education also considered building teachers’ village.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is coordinating with local officials to determine possible relocation areas for schools.

Department of Education also ordered all public and elementary schools in the Philippines to accept emergency transferee students from typhoon ravaged areas in the country, even without their school records.
