China Increased Relief Aid to Typhoon Yolanda Victims in the Philippines

The Chinese government have announced that they increased aid to the Philippines into 10 million yuan ($1.64 million) worth of relief supplies to the Philippines after the devastation brought about by super typhoon Yolanda in the central provinces of the country.

The announcement of increase in aid spending came after controversy with China’s initial offer on Monday of just $100,000 of monetary aid to the Philippines.

The relief goods donated to the Philippines by the Chinese government includes blankets and tents, that will help thousands of people suffering from disaster in the Philippines as confirmed by China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang during a regular press briefing on Wednesday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping have alreay extended condolences to Philippine President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday. The Chinese leader was quoted as saying that, “On behalf of the Chinese people, I extend heartfelt sympathies to the Philippine people and profound condolences to the victims. May the Philippine people overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland at an early date,” Xi said in a telephone call to Aquino.

On Monday, November 11, 2013, the Chinese Emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y in Manila announced the donation of $100,000 by the Chinese government and another $100,000 from the China Red Cross Society.
