Suspension of Classes Until Friday (Aug. 23) in Makati City

One of the Philippines richest city, Makati City, announced that all classes in within the City is suspended until Friday, August 23, 2013 due to the devastation brought about by the monsoon rains.

Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay stated that the suspension of classes covers both the public and private institutions. It is meant to allow students, teachers, and parents to recover from the effects of the massive flooding.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said there were 5,483 individuals in Makati City affected by the strong rains from Habagat (southwest monsoon). The rains was also enhanced by tropical storm “Maring,”

During the days of flooding both Mayor Junjun Binay and his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay made their contributions as they decided to come out and responded with the relief and rescue operations in major areas of Makati City affected by flooding.
