Philippines to Host 6th ASEAN School Games in December 2014

The Philippines will be hosting the upcoming 6th (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation of South East Asian Nations School Games (ASG) through the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). The ASG will be held this coming December 2014, the country will also host the ASG golf tournament in November 2014.

The ASG will celebrate its 6th years in the Philippines, during the 5th ASEAN Schools Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Philippines sent a select set of 2013 Palarong Pambansa medalist.

ASEAN Games

The Philippines won three bronze medals in boy’s volleyball, girls’ basketball, and boy’s javelin throw during the Hanoi Games. The ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) is an annual sporting event that aims to enhance friendship among students around the region.

It also seeks to promote ASEAN solidarity among the youth through schools sports and provide opportunities for school athletes to engage in cultural exchange. The Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam participated during the 5th ASG.

The ASG events includes track and field, sepaktakraw, swimming, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, table tennis, volleyball, and pencaksilat. Meanwhile DepEd Secretary Armin Luistor was so glad and appreciate the PSC for actively supporting the DepEd in developing Filipino athletes.
