SUC Budget Received 44% Hike: 2013 Total Budget P37.1 Billion

The State Colleges and Universities (SUC) of the Philippines got a boosts on it’s yearly budget according to Budget Secretary Florencio B. Abad on a statement made on Monday, March 25, 2013.

Sec. Abad confirmed that contrary to the public perceptions of low budget for state colleges and universities (SUC) due to supposedly limited tuition subsidies but in fact the budget of SUC’s received a 44% hike.

The 44-percent hike added up to a total of P37.1 billion for the yearly SUC budget. The DBM Secretary was quoted as saying that “The Aquino administration gave the sector a budget boost over its 2012 allocation, in line with (the) goal of improving the  tertiary education system and expand the operational capacity of SUCs,” said Abad.

The country’s premier education institution, the University of the Philippines received the highest budget at P9.53 billion in new appropriations for this year, the DBM chief said.

Sec. Abad adds further that “This year, the administration will pay particular focus on streamlining the curricula of SUCs through the Roadmap for Higher Education Reform,” Abad stated.
