Bishop Oscar Solis is the first Filipino highest-ranking clergyman in the United States.

The 59-year-old Solis came from Nueva Ejica, he entered the seminary at an early age of 11 years old. He was ordained priest in the Philippines during the year 1979.

The priest served Cabanatuan City and after that he spent four years at Saint Rocco Church in Union City, New Jersey and another 6 years as rector of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux, Lousiana.

Last December 2003, Father Solis became the first Filipino bishop in the United States. Although he was already popular in the United States he remained humble and focused on his career as a man of God.

As Los Angeles Auxiliary bishop, he’s also Vicar for Ethnic Ministry and is very involved with the Filipino ministry. The lone Filipino Bishop in the United States was interviewed by TFC, and they have posted a video of the interview below.
