Li Na Defeated Sharapova Advanced to Australian Open Finals

Li Na made an impressive performance at the Australian Open Semifinals as she was able to defeat the current World No.2 ranked Maria Sharapova at the Rod Laver Arena with the final score at 6-2, 62 win on Thursday.

Although the Chinese Li was the underdog and Sharapova was the heavy favorite, Li has the backing of the crowd where dozens of red and white Chinese flags swirled in a light breeze.

Li made a comeback to the finals of the Grand Slam after she was dubbed as the first Chinese player to reach that status during the 2011 finals against Kim Clijsters in Melbourne.

The Chinese tennis superstar made some breakthrough also for the past years as she won the French Open beating rival Maria Sharapova in the semifinals along the way.

Li Na will now play the winner of Thursday’s later semifinal match between top-ranked Victoria Azarenka the depending champion going up against the 19-year-old American Sloane Stephens.
