Phil and James Younghusband Ruled Out for the Azkals vs. Bahrain Friendly Match

Philippine Azkals’ most recognized members, Phil and James Younghusband were ruled out in the final line-up of the Philippines on their friendly match against Bahrain this coming Friday in Manama, Bahrain.

The Younghusband brothers were not able to meet the requirements granted by the Philippine Football Federation which suggested that they should be with the team on Tuesday to give them ample time to acclimatize and train with the team.

According to Cathy Rivilla, the Younghusband brothers’ business brothers stated that they could not back out of a commitment to their corporate client which fell on the same day of the PFF’s suggested departure date.

Phil and James Younghusband have other commitments aside from playing with the Philippine National Football Team. The Filipino-British brothers were also playing with the Loyola Meralco Sparks and they run a football school with some multiple product endorsements.

Due to their absent on the earlier scheduled date, the PFF President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta decided that it was best for Phil and James to leave and fly straight to Kuwait this weekend in preparation for the friendly match against Kuwait on October 16, 2012.

Meanwhile Loyola Meralco Sparks players Ref Cuaresma and Anto Gonzales immediately flew to Bahrain following the Sparks’ campaign in the RHB Singapore Cup last Sunday.

Even without the Younghusband brothers, the Azkals will be playing with some experience as they will welcome back goalkeeper Roland Muller, Juani Guirado, Jerry Lucena, Ray Jonsson, Dennis Cagara and Paul Mulders, who will be part of the core players playing during the Peace Cup.
