International Monetary Fund managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested by New York police on Sunday facing allegations regarding sexual assault that includes an attempted rape on a Manhattan hotel maid.

Strauss-Kahn is a 62-year-old head of the IMF. He was reportedly taken off an Air France plane two minutes before take-off from John F Kennedy International Airport on Saturday.

Inside the plane’s first-class cabin, Dominique Strauss-Kahn was hauled by the three port authority detectives.

Anxiety started at around 1 p.m. on Friday when a hotel maid, entered the first class suite occupied by the married Strauss-Kahn. The suite at the luxury Sofitel located on West 44th Street was said to be $3,000 per night.

Reports said that the 32-year-old housekeeper was seemingly unaware that Strauss-Kahn was still inside the room when she came in.

According to a source, Strauss-Kahn nakedly went out from the bathroom and “chased her down a hallway and pulled her into a bedroom”. He even tried to lock the woman into the hotel room.

Following the event, Strauss-Kahn immediately went his way to JFK International Airport for a Paris flight. That was the time when he had been approached by police authorities as they took him off the plane without handcuffs.

Meanwhile, the victim was then brought to Roosevelt Hospital to undergo treatment for trauma.

Mr Strauss-Kahn left his mobile phone and some of his personal belongings when he hastily went out from the hotel suite. In this cause, the cops concluded that Mr Strauss-Kahn apparently tried to flee from the authorities.

Political speculations rise whether the issue would influence his votes on the upcoming presidential elections. However, Strauss-Kahn loyalists still believe that he will still be able to lead the race.

France was alarmed with the news thinking that the Socialist Strauss-Kahn is expected to challenge his contender, French President Nicholas Sarkozy, on the country’s upcoming presidential election to happen next year.

The State Department as well as the French Embassy spokesman choose not to give comments regarding the issue.
