The royal family announced Tuesday about Britain’s Prince William to marry his longtime girlfriend next spring or summer in London.
Kate Middleton spoke of the ‘daunting prospect’ of joining the royal family as she and ‘Prince William’ announced that they would get married next year.
A spokesman for Prince Charles said Prince William gave Kate Middleton the engagement ring that belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.
The expensive ring is an oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds.
The announcement of engagement ended a years of rumored ‘splits and reconciliations’, and the speculation of ‘will-they, won’t-they’. It will be the biggest royal wedding ever since Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer almost 30 years ago.
The heir to the British throne was “delighted of announcing the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. When they were in vacation in Kenya last month the couple got engaged,” said Prince Charles’ in Clarence House office.
William had also informed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and sought the permission of Middleton’s father, said the report.
Buckingham Palace said, Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip are very delighted for both of them.
According to the U.K. newspaper the Sun, “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are absolutely delighted at the news of Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s engagement.”
Prince Harry, the younger brother of Prince William also chimed in. “I am delighted that my brother popped the question. It means I get a sister, which I have always wanted.”
Michael Middleton, Kate’s father said, “we are thrilled at the prospect of a wedding sometime next year.”
David Cameron the Prime Minister was delighted, too, wishing the couple “great joy in their life together.” He said, the news would be announced during a Cabinet meeting, and it was greeted by cheers and “a great banging of the table.”
