6.0 Magnitude Earthquake hits Greek island of Crete

Crete,Greece was hit by 6.0 magnitude quake.

A strong earthquake having a magnitude of 6.0 strikes the Greek island of Crete Friday afternoon. Reports said that there was no warning about tsunami that had been issued.

Local police said that there had been no reports of any damage or injuries as of now. However, many buildings have been rattled from Cairo, Egypt and across the Mediterranean.

Preliminary magnitudes may often differ as the Athens Geological Institute and the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany reported that it was 6.2 magnitude while the U.S. Geological Survey recorded its preliminary magnitude of 5.9.

Meanwhile, the said earthquake centered about 134 kilometers Crete’s Heraklion City and about 59 kilometers northeast of Palaíkastron.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that it hit for about 10 kilometers deep.

The strong quake have struck Crete’s southern coast at around 4:29 p.m.

Greek is said to be one of countries where earthquakes are prone to occur. However, severe fatalities and damages frequently occur.
