As a Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers’ Concerns, Vice President Jejomar Binay leaves the country Tuesday heading his way to Qatar and Saudi Arabia to have discussions with regards to the OFW concerns in the Middle East.

Binay will stay in Doha until March 31 following his travel to Riyadh on April 1. More than two million Filipinos work in the said countries as Vice President Binay is planning to discuss issues with regards to labor, economy as well as to know their present situations there.

In Riyadh, Binay plans to talk with the Saudi authorities in connection to their decision of banning foreign domestic helpers in the Middle East.

He also plans to discuss with the members of the Filipino community that includes those who are presently staying in Bahay Kalinga centers known as “runaways”.

The Bahay Kalinga centers operate through the combined efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

He relates that President Aquino is very much concerned about the present condition of the Filipinos working abroad. He added that during his visit to the countries of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates few months ago, he has listened to the concerns raised by the OFWs and he already relayed all of those to the President.

Added to that, is the idea that his visit will not be completed if he will not be able to exchange conversations with his fellow Filipinos in Saudi Arabia.

Vice President’s media officer,Joey Salgado, reported that the emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y was able to send a verbal note in Saudi’s foreign affairs ministry.

It was said that Binay was in dismay when his flight to Saudi Arabia had been cancelled earlier this month. The cancellation was held due to the fact that the Philippine Emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y had not been able to schedule an audience with the Saudi King.

The Vice President had known about the said trip cancellation when he just arrived in Kuwait based on Salgado’s statement.

The Department of Foreign affairs said that it takes months for anyone to be able to schedule an audience with the Saudi King.
