The rumor has spread via Twitter, email, and other websites for the said 70-meter-wide crop circle that appeared over the weekend in a rice field in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia Monday, January 24, 2011. The said crop circle gains a rumor it was formed by a UFO.
Cahyo Utomo a resident speculated that the odd piece of rice field artwork wasn’t man-made. “The circles were there since yesterday morning. I think they were left by an alien spaceship,” he said.
Some believe that mysterious energy lines or supernatural vortices are to blame; still others attribute them to freak wind patterns.
A large number of curious spectators are flocking to glimpse a pattern crop circle. Villagers have started charging entrance fees and some vendors are selling a picture of the 70-meter-wide (70-yard-wide) crop circle that appeared in the rice field.
The crop circle appeared in the rice paddies during the weekend, Guntur Purwanto, chief of Jogotirto village, told AP.
Many strained to see or photograph the 70-meter-wide pattern featuring circles and triangles. Some people fainted or prayed, considering it a sign from above.
The country’s National Atomic Energy Agency was even called in to inspect the site, and declared it harmless and free of radiation, much to the relief of those selling souvenirs to the gathering crowds.
Among those turning out and offering opinions were officials from Indonesia’s space agency, well-respected astronomers and nuclear agency officials. All agree it was not left by an UFO.
Though clearly sculptured by humans — it looks like an intricately designed flower but it has drawn so much attention that police have blocked off the area with yellow tape.
